11 June – Thursday Cinema: London
SALT Beyoglu invite film lovers to their Thursday Cinema evenings. The movie of this week is London, directed by Patrick Keiller. It is a journal of 1992, which was the year of John Major’s re-election, the IRA bombs and the first crack in the House of Windsor. Scathing reflections on the recent past are enlivened by offbeat humour and wide-ranging literary anecdotes. Keiller’s imaginative and highly original films each document a journey undertaken by the unseen ‘researcher’ Robinson and his similarly unseen companion, the film’s narrator (voiced by Paul Scofield). Filmed with Keiller’s characteristic camera and sound technique, this film is a depiction of the city while under conservative rule. London will be screened at 7 p.m. The programme is free and reservations are not accepted.
