12 August – Meteor Shower

Istanbul Modern invites the audience to celebrate the meteor shower that will occur on Wednesday evening, 12 August, accompanied by special events. Throughout the evening, debris meteors from the Swift-Tuttle comet, rediscovered in 1992, will be visible with the naked eye or a telescope. Inspired by this rare natural phenomenon, diverse activities will be held in the temporary site-specific installation ‘ALL THAT IS SOLID’, in the museum’s courtyard. Activities include a theoretical and applied telescope observation workshop led by astronomers; educational, art and play workshops designed specifically for different age groups; conversations on astronomy and art history; a yoga session and acoustic concerts. The events will take place between 6 and 11 p.m. (If the weather is cloudy the observation workshop will be theoretical.)
