12 May – China and Japan at the World Music Days
Guo Gan and Mieko Miyazaki, who blend the sounds of Chinese and Japanese traditional music into a rich, modern sound that crosses cultural boundaries, are coming to Istanbul. Gan is a master of the Chinese erhu, a two-stringed fiddle that is the most recognisable instrument in Chinese music. Miyazaki, meanwhile, plays the koto, a many-stringed Japanese zither. Gan has been active in France, becoming the face of Chinese music in the country as well as founding the band Dragon Jazz in Paris. Miyazaki has toured with her instrument worldwide, receiving critical acclaim for her atmospheric performances. The duo will take the stage at Akbank Sanat at 8 p.m.
