02 April – World-Famous Piano Sisters
The Labèque sisters, Katia and Marielle, are an internationally known French piano duo. Basque in origin, they constitute a sharply contrasted yet highly communicative piano team. While their reputation was won through the performance of unusual repertoire, they have not neglected traditional works. Celebrity arrived when their recording of Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ sold over a half million copies in 1981. The sisters enjoy collaborations with the world’s leading conductors, among them Riccardo Chailly and James Conlon, and perform with most of the world’s top orchestras. The concert is at Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, 8 p.m.
